Description
Electro-Harmonix took the DNA of two Muff icons — the battle-tank green Sovtek Big Muff Pi and the original ’70s Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi — and re-tuned them specifically for four (and five, and six) string duty. The result is the Bass Big Muff Pi: a fuzz that keeps the smeary, saturated character bassists love while reinforcing the low end so it doesn’t collapse under gain the way many fuzzes do on bass.
On a pedalboard, this thing earns its space by being genuinely versatile in the signal chain. A dedicated direct out splits your dry, unaffected signal to a second amp or a separate effects path — useful for blending clean low-end with the fuzzed signal, or running parallel rigs for FOH and stage monitoring. Flip the Bass Boost/Dry toggle and you get extra low-frequency reinforcement layered into the fuzz tone, letting you dial in anywhere from a tighter, more defined growl to a huge, boosted low-end wall.
Whether you’re after vintage Muff sludge for doom and stoner tones, a gnarly fuzz layer under a synth-bass line, or just a way to cut through a dense mix without losing the bottom end, this pedal is built to handle it.
- Fuzz voicing derived from the Sovtek and vintage EHX Big Muff Pi circuits, optimized for bass frequencies
- Direct out for feeding a second amp or parallel effects chain with unaffected signal
- Bass Boost/Dry toggle switch to add low-end weight to the fuzz tone
