Description
The RYDER is Doug Aldrich’s personal spin on Foxgear’s RATS distortion, built with the man behind the tone from Dio, Whitesnake, and Dead Daisies. Rather than reinvent the wheel, Foxgear handed Aldrich the RATS chassis as a starting point and let him shape it into something that speaks with his voice on stage.
The key change lives in the clipping section: germanium diodes replace the standard setup, adding a rounder, more organic saturation that breaks up with character rather than harshness. Paired with a reworked filter stage — distinct from the original RATS — the RYDER dials in that classic Aldrich midrange push and crunch, sitting perfectly for lead lines that need to cut without turning brittle.
Everything that made the RATS a pedalboard staple carries over here. You still get:
- Gold-Pin relay switching for a rock-solid, reliable connection
- True Bypass so your clean tone stays untouched when the pedal’s off
- Low-Noise circuitry to keep hiss out of high-gain settings
Drop the RYDER into a signal chain ahead of your amp’s clean or lightly-driven channel and let its germanium-flavored saturation do the heavy lifting, or stack it with your existing dirt for extra push on solos. It’s a distortion built by a working guitarist, for guitarists chasing that same vocal, saturated snarl.
