Description
The BSM RPA Major exists because players kept asking for that ferocious 70s Ritchie Blackmore stage tone without tearing into their amp’s circuitry. Built on the foundation of the standard RPA, the Major cranks the gain considerably higher, piling on crunch and aggression that also works well for contemporary Metal rhythm tones.
- Significantly more gain and crunch than the stock RPA
- Aggressive voicing suited to both classic rock and modern Metal styles
- New unit, boxed, from current store inventory
One critical thing to know before you patch this in: at full level, the RPA Major outputs a massive 8 volts. That’s enough to damage many modulation pedals using CMOS-based electronic switching – delays, choruses, and similar devices placed after it in your chain. Because of this, run the RPA Major at full level only when it feeds directly into a tube amp input. If you need pedals downstream of it, back the level control off to roughly 50% to keep everything safe.
Pair it with an amplifier that has a smooth, mild-mannered character and a responsive master volume control. Feed it into the amp’s clean or crunch channel and let the RPA Major’s gain do the heavy lifting – it’s built to push a tube front end into aggressive territory rather than to sit politely in an effects loop full of digital modulation.
Ideal for boards built around amp-in-front, pedal-simple signal chains where the amp itself provides most of the tonal shaping.
