Vertex built the Steel String MK II directly alongside Dumble Steel String Singer #001, chasing the exact way that amp breathes, compresses, and blooms into overdrive. Drop it in front of any clean platform and you’re chasing the tones heard on “Texas Flood,” “Venus Isle,” and “Continuum” – glassy clean boost that turns fat and singing the harder you dig in.
This isn’t a one-trick clean boost. Push it and it moves from subtle EQ shaping into fat compression, then into a crystalline overdrive that never loses string definition. The MK II revision shrinks the footprint by roughly a third versus the original Steel String, freeing up real estate on crowded boards, and adds a Jazz/Rock toggle for extra low-end voicing – cut bass for tight, articulate rock tones or keep it full for warmer jazz voicings.
Placement-wise, it excels right at the front of the chain into a clean amp, acting as your always-on touch-sensitivity booster or stepping on for a lead push – either way it stays transparent to your amp’s core character rather than coloring over it.
