Description
The MO-2 doesn’t pitch-shift or harmonize in the conventional sense — it listens to the overtone content already living inside your guitar signal and builds an entirely new layer from it, using Roland’s Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) engine. The result tracks your picking dynamics in real time, so soft passages and hard strums each pull out different textures from the same note.
On a pedalboard, this sits happily either before or after distortion/gain stages, since Boss designed it to respond well to both clean and dirty guitar tones — and it works on bass too. Three MODE settings give you distinct harmonic characters to build around, while BALANCE and TONE dial in how much of the effect sits under or over your dry signal. The DETUNE knob is where the real sound design happens: nudge it slightly for multi-string shimmer and chorus-like width, or push it further for glassy, flute-like overtones and dense, organ/synth-adjacent textures that thicken single-note lines into something orchestral.
