Description
The Boss MS-3 solves the age-old pedalboard dilemma: internal multi-effects or a dedicated switcher for your favorite stomps? Here you get both, packed into a single low-profile unit built for players who want total signal-chain control without hauling a rack. Three effects loops let you patch in up to three external pedals, while six of the MS-3’s onboard effects can run simultaneously alongside them, giving you 112 effect types and 200 patch memories to draw from.
Placement is where the MS-3 earns its keep. Since you decide exactly where each external loop sits in the chain relative to the internal effects, you can put a fuzz before the onboard modulation, drop a delay after the reverb, or reorder everything on the fly per patch. Beyond tone-shaping, the MS-3 doubles as rig command central: switch amp channels, fire off MIDI messages to other gear, and adjust effect parameters in real time, all from the unit’s number switches, LCD display, and MEMORY/MANUAL modes.
Under the hood, 24-bit AD/DA conversion with Boss and Roland’s proprietary AF (Adaptive Focus) method keeps the signal path clean and quiet even with multiple loops and effects stacked together. Connectivity covers the essentials for a serious board build:
- 3 send/return loops plus standard input/output jacks
- CTL IN/OUT jacks for expression pedals and footswitches
- USB and MIDI OUT for deeper integration
At 246 x 97 x 68 mm and 1.1 kg, it’s light and small enough for a fly rig, yet capable enough to anchor a full pedalboard. Ships with an AC adaptor, four rubber feet, and the owner’s manual.
