Dunlop isn’t guessing at this history; they hold the actual tooling and machinery originally used by Thomas Organ Company and Jen Electronica to build the first Clyde McCoy units. That heritage, paired with decades of Dunlop’s own wah-building know-how, went into recreating this pedal’s voice as authentically as possible.
The heart of the tone is the inductor. The original Halo inductor gave early Clyde McCoy pedals their smooth, vocal character but was prone to microphonic squeal. Dunlop’s answer is the HI01 Halo Inductor — a stabilized cup-core redesign that keeps the classic sweep intact while taming that unwanted noise, so it stays quiet on a crowded board next to fuzz and gain stages.
Everything downstream of the inductor matches that same period-correct approach: thru-hole circuitry, a premium pot for smooth sweep feel, and quality switch and jacks built into the classic Cry Baby housing. Drop it early in the chain ahead of drive and modulation for the most vocal, throaty wah tone, or wherever your board calls for that unmistakable original voice.
