The Hot-Rod Plexi doesn’t chase the vintage-amp vibe with a filtered EQ trick — it borrows portions of Tech 21’s own SansAmp circuitry to recreate the organic push and breakup of a real tube head, minus the volume that would get you evicted. Drop it in front of a clean amp and it rewrites the personality entirely; drop it in front of an already-dirty amp and it works as an instant character mod.
Stock mode gets you the signal path of an original ’68 Plexi, input jack to speaker jack (speaker emulation not included). Flip on Hot and you’re adding a second gain stage modeled on a 12AX7 preamp tube, with its own dedicated level knob capable of stacking up to 28dB of extra gain on top — plenty of headroom for solos or just riding the edge of feedback.
