Description
Paul Gagon built the Blacksmith’s concept back in his Jackson Guitars days, when players like Jeff Beck and Steve Vai kept telling him their Marshalls sounded great cranked—but they wanted them to go further than eleven. The Blacksmith answers that request: it’s an analog distortion voiced to push a tube amp into thicker, more aggressive territory rather than just slapping fuzz on top of a clean signal. Drop it in front of your amp when you want the amp itself to feel like it’s working harder, not just louder.
Control comes from simple Gain and Volume knobs plus a passive 3-band PLEX-EQ, letting you dial in everything from tight rhythm crunch to a wide-open lead voice without losing note definition. The LED-based gain circuit is the heart of the smooth, high-output distortion character, while a 1MEG Ohm input impedance keeps your pickups loaded properly and a 1K Ohm output impedance (when engaged) helps it interface cleanly with the rest of your chain.
Build quality backs up the tone: 1% metal-film resistors for consistent output, high-voltage poly caps chosen for tonal quality, and a military-spec circuit board underneath. A blue status LED stays visible on a dark stage without draining your battery, and the battery compartment is easy to access for quick swaps. When bypassed, true hardwire bypass keeps your signal untouched.
