Robert Keeley didn’t leave the Ibanez TS808 alone out of nostalgia — he opened it up and fixed what pedalboard players actually complained about: mushy low end and a narrow gain window. The TS-808-TB starts from a Texas Instruments RC4558 chip, the same family used in early TS808 units, then layers on real circuit upgrades rather than just a paint job.
Bass response gets tightened so chords stay defined instead of collapsing into mud, and the gain range now stretches further in both directions — clean up the drive for a transparent boost at low settings, or push it hard for a saturated, singing overdrive. The tone control has more usable range and response than the stock circuit, and the overall voicing carries a fuller low end without losing the Tube Screamer midrange bite that makes it a go-to for stacking in front of an amp.
Behind the scenes, Keeley swapped in a gold chip socket, reworked the FET switching for a clearer signal whether the pedal is engaged or bypassed, hand-checked every factory solder joint, and used metal film resistors and caps to keep noise down. It runs true bypass, so it stays out of the way of your tone when it’s off.
