Description
The Belle Epoch Deluxe isn’t inspired by the EP-3 — it’s built to its exact spec. Catalinbread reverse-engineered the original Maestro Echoplex circuit down to the 22v internal power rail (derived from a standard 9vDC supply), the JFET preamp, the mixer stage, and the high-gain silicon transistor record/playback amplifiers with feedback loop. The only piece missing from the original recipe is the tape cartridge itself, replaced here by a 24-bit high-fidelity digital delay line standing in for the record and playback heads. The result is that same expansive, plugged-straight-into-the-wall warmth guitarists have chased for decades.
Every component was ear-selected during development, because Catalinbread treats the EP-3’s feel as sacred territory — this isn’t a delay pedal with a vintage filter slapped on top, it’s the real preamp circuit doing the work.
Beyond echo duties, the Echoplex has always doubled as a tone-shaping tool and a live performance rig unto itself, and the Belle Epoch Deluxe pushes that further. An expression pedal input lets you sweep delay time, playback head volume, rotary speed, and filter sweep behavior on the fly. A momentary footswitch (tunable via internal trimpot) triggers echo oscillation for wild, self-generating textures the original hardware never offered.
On top of the core EP-3 voice, five additional Echo Programs expand the palette:
- Analog Delay — a warmer, tape-flavored repeat mode
- Rotary
- Filter
- DMM Chorus
- DMM Vibrato
Every mode runs through that same magical EP-3 preamp stage, making this pedal equally at home as a delay, a modulation source, or a always-on tone enhancer parked at the front of your board.
