Description
The Radial Tonebone Hot British earns its place on a pedalboard by doing something a lot of dirt boxes fake: it runs your signal through an actual tube, so the distortion breaks up with the natural, harmonically rich compression that solid-state clipping can’t quite replicate. Set up front for gain-staging into a clean amp, or dropped into an effects loop to push an already-hot channel, it delivers everything from thick rhythm chug to sustained, cutting solo tones reminiscent of a cranked 4×12.
Tone shaping is deep without being fussy. Drive sets your input gain into the tube stage, while Level matches output to your amp. High and Low knobs handle broad EQ strokes, and the Contour knob works hand-in-hand with the Voicing switch — flat, scoop, or extra-fat — to dial in exactly how much midrange you want pushed or pulled. The Top End switch (Bright, Flat, Dark) lets you adapt the pedal’s feel to different guitars and amps, and Mid Boost adds a 7dB or 12dB kick when you need your leads to jump out of a dense mix.
Build quality is Radial through-the-roof: true-bypass switching via a heavy-duty footswitch keeps your tone honest when the pedal’s off, a bright red LED keeps you visible on a dark stage, and the circuit runs notably quiet for a tube-driven design. A power supply is included, along with two 6″ patch cables for tidy routing on a crowded board.
