Description
The EP-3 tape echo unit wasn’t just a delay — plugged in as a preamp, it gave players like Page, EVH, and Johnson a distinct push that’s become the stuff of tone legend. Xotic built the EP Booster to bottle that exact character in pedal form, using a discrete FET circuit and low-impedance output to deliver up to +20dB of clean gain. Rather than a flat volume bump, you get shimmering top end and full, rounded lows without the harshness that usually comes with cranked boost — so you can push your amp or drive pedals harder without wearing out your ears over a long set.
Inside, DIP switches let you tailor the boost frequencies and EQ response to match your rig, whether you’re waking up a dark-sounding amp or adding sparkle ahead of a fuzz. This updated version also adds a dip switch for unity gain when the knob is dialed all the way down, so it stays useful as an always-on tone shaper, not just an end-of-solo kick.
Built into a compact 3.5″ x 1.5″ x 1.5″ enclosure with a blue LED and a transparent knob (now paired with the included XKC-1 knob cover), it runs on 9V up to 18V for extra headroom. True bypass keeps your signal untouched when off.
