The Ultimate takes the parallel-path concept of EBS’s Billy Sheehan signature drive and pushes it further. Your dry signal and a distorted signal run down two separate lanes, each with its own Level control, so you’re essentially blending two bass rigs rather than just dialing in gain over a clean tone. Dial the balance to taste, then tighten things up with the onboard compressor — three modes (High, Mid, Off) with internally adjustable threshold give you control over how much squeeze you want in the mix.
Because splitting the signal can introduce phase issues, a Phase Inverter switch restores low-end weight to the drive path when cancellation creeps in. A Boost footswitch is on hand for an instant gain bump mid-song.
What sets this version apart is the Hi/Lo Frequency Filter — a switch that shifts the entire Tone control’s range up or down, opening up distortion textures the earlier Deluxe pedal couldn’t reach, especially in the Hi setting.
Each channel carries its own effects loop, so you can color clean and driven signals independently. The Clean Loop jack doubles as a second input for basses with dual outputs, letting you route lows through it untouched while the main input feeds mids/highs into the drive — a handy trick for keeping low end solid while the top end gets grit.
Everything from the Deluxe model carries over, including tool-free drive chip swapping, now rounded out by the added frequency-range flexibility.
