Description
The Flatiron Fuzz digs into vintage op-amp fuzz territory, running symmetrical hard clipping through circuitry that echoes late-’70s distortion design. Players who grew up on the old Rat pedal will find familiar territory here, but EHX built in enough character to make the Flatiron its own animal. Place it early in your chain for gritty, sustaining lead tones or stack it after a boost for a compressed wall of fuzz-drive.
Three knobs handle the shaping: Volume for output level, Drive for sustain and gain intensity, and the standout Filter control, a low-pass filter with a sweepable cutoff. That Filter knob is the real personality switch, letting you roll from dark, rounded-off fuzz to a raunchier, high-end-forward snarl without touching an amp EQ. Roll back your guitar’s volume and the tone cleans up, though it never goes fully pristine, it just settles into a lower-gain grit that’s handy for dynamic playing.
The name and artwork pay tribute to the Flatiron Building, the Manhattan landmark that stood just blocks from EHX’s home base back in the ’70s.
