Description
Hot Wax takes two distinct overdrive circuits from the Electro-Harmonix catalog and puts them on one board-friendly footprint. On one side sits the Crayon, a full-range overdrive known for tracking pick dynamics and note definition cleanly. On the other is Hot Tubes, EHX’s reissue of its classic 1970s CMOS-based overdrive circuit, prized for a thicker, more compressed push. Run either stage solo for its own character, or engage both together so the Crayon feeds into the Hot Tubes for a stacked, amp-pushed intensity that goes well beyond what either circuit does alone.
A shared BASS and TREBLE EQ section shapes the combined tone, while a BLEND knob lets you fold in your unprocessed dry signal — a feature bassists in particular will appreciate for keeping low-end punch intact under a saturated drive. All three of these controls (EQ and Blend) come alive the moment either overdrive is switched on, and step out of the way entirely in true bypass when both are off.
Built for the road, the Hot Wax uses quiet, pop-free foot switching so you can flip between drive stages mid-song without any jarring clicks or level jumps.
