Description
The Operation Overlord Allied Overdrive is EHX’s answer to builders who want one drive box to serve the whole rig — guitar, bass, keys, or whatever else you’re running into it. It’s not tuned for one instrument and grudgingly tolerant of others; a three-position input switch lets you set the proper gain staging for what you’ve actually plugged in.
Under the hood, Normal mode runs signal through three JFET gain stages, aiming for that tube-amp compression and touch response rather than a fizzy clipping-diode edge. Step on the silent footswitch for Boost mode and a classic pedal-style overdrive circuit kicks in ahead of those JFET stages, stacking gain for anything from a light push to fully saturated distortion. Because both modes switch silently, you can move between them mid-song without a pop or click giving you away.
Tone shaping comes from an active three-band EQ (Treble, Mid, Bass) plus a Dry blend control, so you can carve the drive signal while keeping some of your original tone underneath it for clarity and low-end integrity. Left and right 1/4″ inputs and outputs make the Overlord fully stereo-capable — drop it into a stereo rig or stereo effects loop and run two independent distortion channels side by side.
