Description
The EHX Riddle is a fully-tunable envelope filter built for players who want more than a canned funk sweep. It responds directly to how hard you dig in, sculpting a vocal, expressive filter voice across an 80 Hz to 5 kHz range that stays smooth and even from top to bottom rather than spiking or thinning out at the extremes.
Where Riddle earns its place on a pedalboard is in the depth of control on offer. You get dedicated adjustment over Q, sweep range, and filter type, letting you move from a tight, narrow quack to a wide, sweeping wah-style response without needing a separate pedal for each character. Stack in the built-in analog distortion and you can push the filtered signal from a faint rasp into a snarling, saturated crush — dial it back for subtle harmonic bite, or slam it for a filter tone with real teeth.
For hands-free control, Riddle accepts an optional expression pedal, so the filter sweep can be driven by your foot in real time instead of relying purely on pick attack — useful for slower swells or sustained chords where envelope tracking alone won’t cut it.
- Frequency range: 80 Hz to 5 kHz
- Adjustable Q, sweep range, and filter type
- Onboard analog distortion, from subtle to heavily crushed
- Expression pedal input for foot-controlled sweep (expression pedal sold separately)
Place it after your drive stage for a filtered lead voice, or run it earlier in the chain to shape a funk-forward rhythm tone — Riddle’s range of adjustment means it adapts to either role.
