Description
Hiss, hum, and fuzz bleed have no place on a tight pedalboard, and The Silencer from Electro-Harmonix is built to eliminate them without stripping the life out of your tone. Rather than a one-knob fix, it gives you three interacting controls so the gate can be dialed in to match your specific rig, guitar, and playing dynamics instead of forcing a generic setting on everything.
- Threshold sets how much signal is needed before the gate opens, letting quiet passages stay quiet without swallowing your pick attack.
- Reduction determines how deeply the gated signal gets cut, adjustable from a subtle +4dB down to a hard -70dB of silence.
- Release shapes how long the gate stays open once your signal falls below the threshold, sweepable from a snappy 8ms to a slow 4-second tail.
What sets The Silencer apart from an inline-only gate is its Send and Return jacks alongside standard Input and Output — meaning it can just as easily wrap around your entire dirt or modulation section to mute the whole loop’s noise floor in one shot. The footswitch toggles engage/bypass, and buffered bypass keeps your effects loop connected to the signal chain even when the gate itself is switched off.
Housed in a compact, rugged chassis built for the road, it runs on a 9V battery (included) or a standard external supply like the EHX 9.6DC (sold separately) via the built-in AC jack.
