The Gurus Echosex 3° has quietly earned a reputation as one of the most musical echo/delay units a pedalboard can host, and this 10th Anniversary edition ties that legacy directly to Steve Lukather. Since 2014 Lukather has run an Echosex — 2°, 3°, or the Baby — permanently engaged in his signal chain, in the studio and on the road with TOTO and Ringo Starr. His own words sum up why: “The Echosex 3° is the most important and used piece of gear I have, it’s always ON and it’s a big part of my sound.”
What makes this version personal is the detail carried over from Lukather’s own touring rig: his longtime guitar tech Jon Gosnell marks Luke’s go-to control positions with a green marker on the pedal’s faceplate, and that exact touch has been preserved here so players can dial in his favored setting straight out of the box or use it as a reference point for their own tone.
Placed early in a chain for transparent slap-back or pushed further down the board for washier, saturated repeats, the Echosex platform has long been prized for staying out of the way of your core tone while adding depth — which is precisely why Lukather leaves his engaged at all times.
Beyond the tone, this release marks a decade of Echosex development and a genuine friendship between Foxgear/Gurus and Lukather. Part of the proceeds from every unit sold goes to the Ed Asner Family Center For Autism, an LA-based charity supporting autistic children and their families.
