Description
Bass tone lives and dies on dynamics, and the MXR M87 Bass Compressor gives you the same level of control found on a studio rack unit, shrunk down into a pedalboard-friendly stomp box. Rather than squashing your signal into a generic mush, the M87’s Constant Headroom Technology (CHT) circuit keeps things open and detailed, so slap, fingerstyle, or pick attack all retain their natural bite even when you’re really leaning on the compression.
Full control over attack, release, ratio, input, and output means you can dial in anything from a subtle leveling effect that just smooths out volume spikes, to a tighter, more aggressive squeeze for slap and funk lines. A row of ten gain-reduction LEDs gives you constant visual feedback on exactly how much compression is being applied, so you can set your threshold by eye instead of guessing by ear alone.
Placement in your chain is simple: run it early, right after your bass, to even out your dynamics before hitting drive or modulation pedals downstream. True bypass keeps your signal path clean when the M87 is off, and the rugged aluminum housing is built to handle the road.
