The Xotic BB Preamp is less a single-trick booster and more a tone-shaping tool that lives quietly at the front of your chain, ready to push amps into new territory. With over 30dB of clean boost on tap and a two-band active EQ offering ±15dB of cut or lift, it can add shimmer to the top end, thicken up the low mids, or simply act as an always-on volume nudge for solos.
What sets the BB apart is its pre-gain stage. Roll it back and you get pristine, headroom-rich clean boost that stacks well with other pedals ahead of a clean amp. Push it forward and the circuit shifts into a smooth, compressed overdrive character — think low-gain amp saturation rather than fuzzy distortion. That range makes it equally useful as a subtle EQ correction tool or a genuine gain stage on its own.
True bypass switching keeps the signal path clean and unaffected when the pedal is off, so it won’t color your tone or add noise elsewhere on the board. Power it with a standard 9V battery or an optional 9VDC negative-tip adapter (regulated recommended).
