Description
Volume pedals get a bad reputation for thinning out tone, but the Mission Engineering VM-1 was engineered specifically to avoid that trap. Hand wired point to point and fully passive, it needs no battery or power supply, and it stays out of the way of your signal until you actually step on it. Because it’s passive, the VM-1 shines brightest paired with passive pickups, making it a natural fit near the front of a pedalboard chain ahead of your gain and modulation stages.
The sealed potentiometer inside is rated for over one million operations and asks for zero maintenance, so it’s built to take years of gigging and rehearsal abuse without drifting or getting scratchy.
What really sets this pedal apart is how it handles tuning. Most rigs with a separate tuner output suffer from tone suck – the extra cable length and components create a low-pass filter effect that quietly robs your highs. The VM-1 sidesteps this entirely by keeping the tuner output isolated and inactive until you press down on the front of the pedal to engage mute mode. That single action mutes your main output for silent guitar swaps and tuning, while simultaneously activating the tuner jack.
Keep in mind the tuner out only works while mute mode is engaged – it isn’t live all the time. If your setup calls for an always-on tuner output, Mission’s active VM-PRO volume pedal is built for that instead.
