Description
The Bones Hollywood isn’t a single-flavor distortion — it’s two distinct gain circuits living on one board, each tuned to echo the touch-sensitivity of a cranked American tube amp rather than a flat, one-note fuzz. Roll back your guitar’s volume and it cleans up with real amp-like dynamics; dig in and it opens into a smooth, biting growl that reacts to how hard you play.
Where it earns its place on a serious pedalboard is in the shaping controls. Each channel gets its own Low, High, and Drive knob, plus a 3-position gain switch and a 3-position cut switch, so you’re not stuck guessing at a single gain stage. The cut switch adds midrange push or thickens up thin single-coil tone, while the gain switch spans everything from a light edge-of-breakup grit to full-on saturated overdrive.
Because Distortion 1 and 2 run as separate circuits with independent level controls and a dedicated toggle, you can park a tighter rhythm voice on one side and a midrange-boosted, sustain-heavy lead voice on the other — flip the switch mid-song instead of stacking pedals or riding a volume knob. That makes the Hollywood equally useful as a standalone drive or as a flexible gain-staging tool ahead of your amp’s clean channel.
Housed in Radial’s compact, rugged enclosure, it runs on 9V power and slots easily into any multi-pedal power supply setup.
