The EP Booster exists because of one question: what made the old EP-3 tape echo sound so magical when guitarists ran their signal through its preamp stage alone? Players like Page, EVH, and Johnson leaned on that unit for years, and Xotic reverse-engineered its character into a compact stompbox built for the modern board.
Inside is a discrete FET circuit paired with a low-impedance output, giving you up to +20dB of boost that stays clean and articulate rather than compressed or brittle. Push it hard and the top end shimmers instead of shrieking, while the low end stays full without turning muddy – the kind of boost you can leave on all set without fatigue. Internal DIP switches let you tailor the boost frequency and EQ voicing to match your amp or the rest of your chain, whether you’re using it to kick an amp into overdrive or just adding sparkle ahead of your dirt pedals.
This particular unit is Xotic’s updated version, featuring the internal DIP switch that allows true unity gain when the knob is rolled all the way down – useful if you want the tone-shaping without added volume.
Housed in a compact 3.5″ x 1.5″ x 1.5″ enclosure with a blue LED and transparent control knob, it runs on a standard 9V battery or an adapter rated 9V-18V for extra headroom.
