Description
The Box of Rock is ZVex founder Zachary Vex’s tribute to his go-to amp: a cranked 1966 Marshall JTM45. Rather than chase a generic “distortion” sound, this pedal nails the specific saturated roar of that vintage head at full volume, making it a natural fit for players who want amp-like breakup without hauling a Marshall to every gig.
This Vexter Series edition trades hand-painted artwork for UV-printed graphics marking the pedal’s 25th Anniversary, but the electronics inside are unchanged — same circuit, same parts, same tone as the original hand-painted versions. If you’re after the sound rather than the artwork, this is the same pedal for less.
Onboard, a single tone control lets you dial brightness up or down to match your guitar and amp’s voicing, while a separate high-headroom, low-noise boost circuit adds clean gain on top of the drive. That combination makes it flexible on a pedalboard: run it as your always-on grit into a clean amp, stack it ahead of other overdrives for a thicker front end, or kick in the boost alone to punch through a solo without adding mud.
