Description
Joe Bonamassa’s signature take on the Fuzz Face keeps everything that made the original a staple of blues-rock boards, then folds it into a compact mini enclosure. Sitting near the front of your chain, right after the guitar, the FFM4 turns pick attack into a warm, saturated fuzz that cleans up nicely as you back off the volume knob — classic germanium behavior that responds directly to how hard you hit the strings.
The heart of the circuit is a pair of NOS Russian military germanium transistors, prized for their creamy, slightly compressed character compared to silicon fuzz designs. That vintage-correct tone is dressed up with a gloss black finish and miniature top hat knobs, giving the pedal a distinct look on a crowded board without straying from Fuzz Face tradition.
Despite the smaller footprint, Dunlop built in conveniences players expect from a modern pedal:
- AC power jack for pedalboard power supplies
- Battery door for quick access without unscrewing the baseplate
- Bright status LED to confirm on/off at a glance
- True bypass switching to keep your tone uncolored when the fuzz is off
Because it’s an interactive, transistor-driven fuzz, the FFM4 reacts to guitar volume and pickup output — roll back your guitar’s volume for cleaner breakup, or dig in for full-on saturated fuzz. It plays well with buffered pedals placed after it, but for the most authentic germanium fuzz response, run it early in the chain, direct off the guitar.
