The SY-300 tears down the biggest barrier to guitar synthesis: it works with the guitar you already own, plugged into a plain 1/4-inch cable. No GK pickup, no 13-pin cable, no retrofit. BOSS built this on ultra-fast DSP that tracks your playing in real time, so there’s no lag between pick attack and synth response — your phrasing, bends, and dynamics translate directly into the sound.
Under the hood sits a genuinely deep analog-style synth engine, split across three oscillator sections. Pick from wave shapes like SIN, SAW, TRI, SQR, PWM, DETUNE SAW, NOISE, or even your raw guitar INPUT as an oscillator source, then sculpt with filters, amp envelopes, and LFOs the way a synth player would on a modular rig. A built-in step sequencer with tap tempo turns a single sustained note into a moving arpeggio, and the Blender function lets you cross-pollinate settings from different patches for happy accidents.
It’s not only about synth voices, either — route your normal guitar tone through the same filter, amp, and LFO stages to warp it into new textures without ever touching the oscillators. Four independent effects engines (overdrive, distortion, Slow Gear, Isolator, Slicer, and more, some stackable in pairs like chorus+delay) can hit the synth signal, the dry guitar signal, or both.
On the board, four footswitches handle bypass, patch scrolling, and three assignable parameters per patch, with room for external footswitches or an expression pedal. A Thru output carries your dry signal for a separate rig or effects loop via the Return jack, dual Main/Sub outputs give flexible routing, and MIDI In/Out/Thru ties into switchers and other MIDI gear. USB audio I/O lets you record synth tones straight into your DAW, re-synth existing tracks, or edit and archive patches with BOSS Tone Studio.
