Description
The Keeley Modified TS9DX Flexi 4×2 takes the familiar Ibanez Tube Screamer platform and splits it into two personalities: the midrange-forward Mod Plus and the smoother, more saturated Baked Mod. A single HIGH GAIN / LOW GAIN toggle switches between them instantly, and when you layer that on top of the stock 4-way “Turbo” rotary, you’ve got eight usable overdrive characters without ever touching the Drive or Tone knobs. For pedalboard builders who want maximum tonal range from minimal real estate, this is a genuinely deep box.
Under the hood, Keeley kept the beloved Texas Instruments 4558 chip at the core but swapped in Genuine Panasonic Metal Stack Film Caps for extra clarity and a bell-like top end, along with Metal Film Resistors to keep noise down. Each of the four base modes uses its own combination of diodes, LEDs, and capacitor values, tuned to emulate the compression and harmonic bloom of a pushed tube amp rather than a generic clipping circuit.
Keeley also converted the switching to true-bypass, stripping out the JFET buffers and switching circuitry that can dull tone even when the pedal is off. The result is a more transparent signal path on both sides of the switch—though note the original footswitch mechanism no longer functions in its stock capacity now that true-bypass has been installed. A Keeley Lake Placid Blue LED lets you see your mode at a glance on a dim stage.
