Description
The MXR MC402 packs two distinct utility tools into one true-bypass box: a dynamic overdrive stage and an independent clean boost, each with its own footswitch and voice. The overdrive side stays honest to the CAE lineage—warm, punchy, and unwilling to smear your tone. Dial the gain back and it sits in bluesy, edge-of-breakup territory; crank it and it pushes into thick, metal-grade crunch. Because the circuit tracks pick attack and guitar volume so faithfully, backing off your volume knob cleans things up without thinning the sound, so the pedal stays touch-responsive across your whole dynamic range.
Flip on the boost side and you get up to +20dB of gain with zero coloration—the same circuit CAE has relied on for years to fix level and impedance issues in professional guitar rigs. Run it before a dirt pedal to shove it harder, after your drive stack to punch through a solo, or on its own as a always-on signal conditioner. Quiet operation and low output impedance mean it plays nicely with everything else crowding your board.
Controls are kept minimal by design—CAE’s philosophy has always been function over clutter, so you get exactly the knobs needed and nothing extra to fuss over. This listing includes two 6″ patch cables, ready for tight pedalboard routing.
