Description
Formerly known as the Wylde Overdrive, the MXR ZW44 Berzerker carries Zakk Wylde’s brutal, take-no-prisoners tone into a single stompbox. Built with Dunlop, this pedal channels the aggressive, chunky attack that fueled his work with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society, giving you a direct line to that battle-tested Wylde sound.
Drop it in front of a clean amp and the ZW44 transforms it into a heavy, saturated crunch machine with plenty of low-end weight and bite. Push it into a dirty amp instead, and it becomes a lead-boosting weapon, adding sustain and screaming presence for solos that cut through a mix. Its overdrive character is powerful but well-defined, avoiding the mushy low end that plagues lesser high-gain pedals — a trait that makes it a reliable front-of-amp gain stage for boards built around aggressive rock and metal tones.
Controls are kept purposefully simple: Output and Gain let you dial in the right amount of drive at any volume, while a single Tone knob handles overall voicing without overcomplicating your signal chain. It’s an easy pedal to set and forget, leaving you free to focus on the performance rather than fiddling with knobs mid-set.
