Description
ProCo built the FATRAT on the chassis of the beloved ’85 Whiteface Reissue RAT, then handed it a few serious upgrades. The result keeps that instantly recognizable RAT growl on tap while opening the door to warmer, more amp-like textures and low-end heft that the original circuit never offered.
- Switchable Clipping: Flip between silicon clipping (the classic RAT voice) and a mosfet/germanium clipping stage that softens the upper mids and adds a natural, amp-in-the-room feel across the gain range.
- Socketed Opamp: Ships with an OP07DP chip, but the socket accepts the sought-after LM308 and other compatible chips — a solder-free swap for anyone chasing a specific vintage flavor.
- Fat Switch: Boosts bass while cutting highs, making the FATRAT genuinely usable on bass rigs, downtuned guitars, or as a thick, smoothed-out overdrive at lower gain settings.
- Large CTS Pots: Distortion, Filter, and Volume sweep smoothly and evenly, so dialing in the pedal’s many tonal sweet spots is intuitive rather than fiddly.
- 9–18V Operation: Running at 18V opens up extra headroom and fidelity, with noticeably less sag than older RAT circuits.
Under the hood it’s a fully analog signal path on a mil-spec glass-epoxy board, housed in the same virtually indestructible steel enclosure RAT players have trusted for decades. Industrial-grade footswitch, knobs, and jacks back it up, along with an on/off LED, tool-free battery access (battery not included), and a standard 2.1mm barrel jack for 9 or 18V power. Backed by a five-year limited warranty.
Whether it’s anchoring a bass board or adding girth to a guitar rig, the FATRAT slots in as a distortion/overdrive stage that can go from tight and biting to fat and rounded with a single switch flick.
