The MXR M116 Fullbore Metal exists for one reason: to deliver the crushing, high-gain distortion that modern metal riffing demands. Slot it into your chain and you get a wall of saturated gain with enough headroom to stay articulate even when you’re piling on the volume and drive.
What separates Fullbore Metal from a generic gain box is control. A three-band EQ with sweepable mid frequencies lets you carve out scooped or mid-forward tones to cut through a dense mix, while a fast, switchable noise gate cleans up the hiss and hum that extreme gain settings usually drag along. The gate doesn’t just quiet things down between notes — it tightens the attack on syncopated riffs, so palm mutes land with snap instead of mush.
Built into MXR’s rugged compact housing with true hardware bypass, it’s a straightforward pedalboard citizen: drop it near the front of your chain, dial in your gain and gate response, and shape the voice with the mid-sweep EQ. This bundle includes two 6″ patch cables to help you wire it in cleanly alongside your other stompboxes.
