Description
Rather than simply piling gain onto your bass signal, the Billy Sheehan Signature Drive splits it into two paths: a clean channel that anchors your low end and a drive channel that supplies bite. Blend the two and you get distortion that never loses the fundamental — a core Sheehan tone principle baked directly into the circuit design he co-developed with EBS.
- Drive, Tone, Level, Clean — four knobs give independent control over gain, mid-scoop voicing, and the balance struck between the distorted and clean signals before they hit the onboard compressor.
- Switchable compression — flip between High and Mid response, or bypass it entirely. Open the bottom plate and trim pots let you dial in threshold (shared by both modes) and ratio (Mid mode only) for precise note-to-note evenness under heavy drive.
- Clean Loop and Drive Loop — insert outboard gear into either path independently. Run an EQ into the Drive Loop to reshape the distortion’s character, or route a favorite outboard compressor into the Clean Loop instead of using the built-in one. Requires a separate insert cable (stereo 1/4″ plug splitting to send/return).
- All-analog, mechanical switching for a true bypass feel and signal path.
- Runs on 9-12V DC (battery or power supply, EBS AD-9 sold separately).
Housed in EBS’s extended-format enclosure to accommodate the added loop jacks and switching, this pedal rewards players who want a distortion that behaves like a real bass amp’s overdrive channel — thick, controllable, and still recognizably low-end. A strong front-end or mid-chain drive stage for anyone building a rig around dynamics rather than just fuzz.
