Description

The Range Master germanium treble booster carried Brian May through Queen’s earliest years, and BSM already reproduces that circuit faithfully as their RM model. But partway through his career, May moved to a silicon-based treble booster design, chasing more edge and attack in his tone. The BM-Q Special is BSM’s dedicated rebuild of that later circuit, wired with the original silicon transistor to keep the harmonic character true to the source.

  • Silicon transistor treble booster circuit, based on Brian May’s mid-Queen setup
  • Delivers sharper bite and increased upper-frequency push compared to the earlier germanium Range Master voicing
  • Sister unit BM-Q adds a volume control to the same core circuit, for players wanting output-level adjustment on board

On a pedalboard, this sits early in the chain, right where a treble booster earns its name: ahead of your amp’s front end or a dirt pedal, cutting through a mix without piling on gain. It’s less about adding distortion and more about reshaping the guitar’s midrange and top end so a Vox or plexi-style amp responds with that singing, cutting edge May built his lead sound around. Straightforward, purpose-built, and true to a specific slice of guitar history.
