The EBS MultiDrive Studio Edition sits closer to overdrive territory than outright distortion, and that’s by design. Its mode switch gives you three flavors — Tubeism, Standard, and Flat — each shaping the drive character while a carefully engineered circuit lets the fundamental low frequencies pass through intact. On guitar, expect a bluesy, slightly cracked-up tone with generous sustain and body rather than a wall of fuzz. For bassists, that untouched bottom end means you can dial in grind on top without losing the thump underneath.
This pedal has been refined over three generations. Originally launched in 2001, the 2008 revision brought 3 dB more headroom, improved sensitivity, and a quieter, more dynamic analog circuit along with true bypass switching. The current Studio Edition, released in 2015, goes further still: a redesigned signal path, new relay-based switching, overvoltage protection up to 18V, and flexible power options from 9-12V DC.
