Description
Most overdrives carve out a scooped-mid signature whether you want it or not. The EHX Crayon takes a different route: it’s a full-range drive with independent Bass and Treble controls, so the low end stays full and the top stays glassy instead of getting squeezed into a familiar mid-forward box. That open frequency response makes it a chameleon on a pedalboard — it can sit quietly at the front of your chain shaping tone before hitting a fuzz or amp, or it can be pushed hard for a thick, saturated lead voice on its own.
Turn the gain down and it behaves like a transparent boost/EQ stage, adding just a whisper of warmth without smearing your guitar’s natural character. Push it and the Crayon saturates into a rich, full-on distortion that still lets the Bass and Treble knobs sculpt exactly where the energy sits in the mix. Because it doesn’t impose its own tonal stamp, it’s equally happy stacked in front of another overdrive as it is running solo.
Built analog, true bypass, and housed in a compact enclosure, it slots easily into a crowded board without hogging space or coloring your tone when it’s off.
