Description
The EHX Freeze isn’t a sustain pedal in the traditional sense—it’s a sampling engine that grabs whatever’s happening in your signal at the moment you step on the momentary footswitch and holds it there, indefinitely, while you keep playing on top. Let go and you’re back to normal, ready to freeze the next moment. Stack it with reverb, delay, or a fuzz downstream and you can build layered textures that sound like a second guitarist is holding a pad while you solo over the top.
- Real-time sample capture with seamless looping
- Fast decay mode for tighter, percussive freezes
- Slow decay mode for smoother fade-outs
- Latch mode for a held sample that sustains indefinitely
- Smooth tonal blending between captured samples
- Handles input gain from pedalboard chains without choking
- Includes 9.6VDC 200mA power supply
Under the hood it’s a digital circuit with buffered bypass, so it plays nicely inline even when it’s not actively freezing—handy if you’re running it mid-chain rather than in a loop. It’s mono in and out, draws 140mA, and fits a footprint of 4.5 x 2.75 x 2.1 inches, so it won’t hog too much real estate on a crowded board. Place it after your drive pedals to freeze a saturated chord, or ahead of your delay and reverb to let the frozen note bloom and decay naturally through your ambient effects. Either way, the Freeze turns a single chord into a foundation you can build an entire passage around.
