Description
The Key9 rounds out EHX’s B9/C9 keyboard-emulation lineage by aiming squarely at electric pianos and mallet instruments rather than organs. Feed it a guitar or keyboard signal and it reshapes the tone into one of nine presets built around the classic Rhodes and Wurlitzer palette — think the mellow bell-like sway of “Riders on the Storm” or the biting funk stab of “What’d I Say.” A handful of presets step outside piano territory entirely, offering convincing vibes, mallet percussion, organ, and even steel drum textures.
On a pedalboard, the Key9 works best as a dedicated voice-switching station near the front or in an effects loop where its tracking can lock onto a clean note. DRY and KEY volume knobs let you blend your untouched signal against the emulated instrument, while CTRL 1 and CTRL 2 dial in whatever parameters matter most to the selected preset — many of which layer in built-in modulation like tremolo, phaser, or chorus rather than relying on the piano voice alone.
