Rather than locking you into one compression curve, EHX gives you a three-way Attack toggle—fast, medium, slow—so you can dial in how quickly the compression clamps down after a note or chord. Pair that with the Sustain control and you can stretch notes into long, singing tails or keep things tight and percussive, all while retaining the pick attack that defines your playing.
Placement in the chain is straightforward: run it early, ahead of gain and modulation, to even out dynamics before they hit your drive pedals, or push it later for a smoother, more compressed feel going into the amp. Bassists get equal love here—the variable attack settings let you tame slap transients or smooth out fingerstyle lines without pumping or artifacts.
