If you’ve ever plugged an undersaddle pickup straight into the board and cringed at how brittle and piezo-y it sounded, the Aura Spectrum DI exists to fix exactly that problem. Instead of just EQ-ing around the issue, Fishman’s Aura Acoustic Imaging technology blends your pickup signal with a captured “Image” of that same instrument style recorded in a proper studio with world-class mics. The result at the XLR out is a far more natural, three-dimensional acoustic tone than any onboard preamp alone can deliver.
Place it last in your acoustic chain, after your tuner-pedal duties are already handled by its built-in chromatic tuner, and it becomes command central: 3-band EQ for shaping, a one-knob compressor for evening out dynamics, and automatic feedback suppression across up to three notches for those loud-stage moments when your soundhole starts howling. There’s also an effects loop if you want to insert modulation or reverb pedals ahead of the DI stage, plus a phase switch to fight feedback further.
128 preloaded Images cover the most common acoustic instrument types, and 16 user-configurable slots let you load your own via the included Aura Image Gallery software and USB. Fishman recorded these Images using their own Acoustic Matrix undersaddle pickup, so results are most accurate when paired with a Fishman undersaddle or magnetic soundhole pickup — soundboard, bridge-plate, multi-sensor, or mic’d sources aren’t recommended since their extra resonances fight the processing.
