Rather than letting the release curve fall off exponentially and create audible ripple under long sustained notes, the circuit smooths that decay into a linear response — so chords ring out and dies away naturally instead of getting choked mid-note.
Placement flexibility is where this pedal earns its spot on a serious board. Drop one between guitar and amp input for straightforward hiss control, or add a second unit in the effects loop to catch noise generated further down the chain. Each pedal now has LINK IN and LINK OUT jacks, connected via a common 1/8″ TS or TRS cable, letting two Decimator X units share tracking data on the same input signal. Linked this way, a pair gets you close to the noise-reduction performance of ISP’s rack-mount Decimator ProRack G system — useful for dual-preamp setups (one Decimator X after each preamp) or for building a genuinely independent stereo noise reduction chain with separate ins and outs per channel.
