Description
The Little Green Wonder tackles a problem most overdrives struggle with: staying musical once your amp or pedalboard is already saturated. Mad Professor designed this circuit with reduced compression compared to typical overdrive/distortion topologies, so it doesn’t collapse or smear when layered on top of an already complex, overdriven tone. Drop it anywhere in your signal chain and it holds its own.
Where a lot of overdrives fall flat with humbuckers — losing low end or splitting into a strange two-layer sound with transients poking through a haze of fuzz beneath — the LGW stays coherent. It’s equally happy running solo in front of a clean amp for light break-up, or working as a smoothing filter after a rough-edged fuzz pedal.
The single Body control is the heart of its flexibility. Centered, it delivers a moderate mid-hump. Turn it clockwise for a treble lift, or counter-clockwise for a combined low-mid and treble boost — the latter pushing the circuit into a smooth, usable distortion rather than just more gain. Use it to push an already-dirty amp further, tame an aggressive fuzz downstream, or simply add a touch of grit to a clean signal.
