Description
The MXR Carbon Copy runs a fully analog signal path, using bucket-brigade circuitry to shape delay repeats that darken and soften naturally as they decay—something no digital algorithm quite replicates. It’s the reason this pedal has become a pedalboard staple for players chasing organic, tape-like echo rather than a clinical copy of the dry signal.
Onboard controls stay simple: Delay sets repeat time up to 600ms, Mix blends dry and wet signal, and Regen dials in how many times the echo repeats before fading out. A top-mounted toggle switches modulation on or off, letting you move between a straightforward, focused delay and a wobblier, chorus-tinged repeat. Open the enclosure and two internal trim pots give you further control over modulation width and rate, so the wobble can be subtle or seasick depending on taste.
Placement-wise, the Carbon Copy sits comfortably late in the chain, after drive and modulation pedals, where its analog character can shape the tail end of your tone rather than get buried under distortion. Bedroom slap-back, surf-style echo, and long Gilmour-esque washes are all within reach just by adjusting the three main knobs.
