Description
Before pedalboards were even a concept, the Phase 90 was already doing rounds on stages, laying down that unmistakable liquid warble that guitarists still chase decades later. MXR went back to their own archives — pulling a ’74 unit from the shop floor — and reverse-engineered it down to the last resistor value to build this ’74 Vintage reissue. Nothing about the circuit is guesswork; it’s hand-wired using period-correct components and hand-matched FETs, the same pairing that gave the original its smooth, gooey modulation curve rather than the choppier sweep found in later versions.
Drop it in early in your chain, ahead of gain stages, and it thickens up single-note lines with a subtle throb. Push it post-drive and it gets more pronounced, adding swirl and motion to sustained chords without smearing pitch definition. Either way, the single-knob Speed control keeps operation dead simple — no menus, no presets, just turn and go. It’s finished in the classic orange enclosure with the vintage Script logo, so it looks the part on a board full of modern digital units too.
This bundle throws in two 6-inch patch cables, handy for tying the Phase 90 into a compressor, drive pedal, or the front end of a modulation cluster without hunting down extra cabling first.
