Description
The MXR Deep Phase digs into the tone of a genuine 1970s phase shifter, the kind that gave classic Gilmour-style psychedelia and EVH’s swooshing solos their signature motion. Rather than a static, one-speed sweep, this pedal tracks your picking intensity in real time, so the phasing feels alive — pulling back when you play soft, surging forward when you dig in. That scooped-mid, vocal-like character is baked into the circuit, giving it an unmistakably organic swirl.
Where vintage phasers often sucked tone or volume the moment you stomped them on, the Deep Phase sidesteps that problem entirely, holding your signal level steady whether it’s engaged or not. That makes it easy to drop into any spot in the chain — ahead of a fuzz for swirling saturation, after your drive for a smoother sweep, or on its own for clean, shimmering movement.
Control is kept simple and musical:
- Speed knob to set the rate of the sweep
- FDBK knob to shape resonance and intensity
- Mode II switch to flip between a classic 4-stage phase and a deeper, more animated 8-stage mode
It’s all housed in MXR’s tough mini enclosure, built to survive the road and small enough to fit tight pedalboard real estate without eating into space you need for other effects.
