Some delays chase clarity; the Carbon Copy chases character. MXR built this one around genuine bucket-brigade circuitry, so every repeat softens and darkens naturally as it decays—no digital sheen, just true analog warmth. It’s the pedal players reach for when they want echoes that feel like part of the guitar’s own tone rather than an effect stacked on top.
Delay time stretches out to 600ms, plenty of room for anything from tight slapback to long, spacious trails. The three-knob layout keeps things fast on a crowded board: Delay sets repeat time, Mix blends dry and wet signal, and Regen controls how many times the echo repeats before fading out. Flip the top-mounted switch and you’ve got built-in modulation for wobbly, tape-style movement—pop the enclosure and two internal trim pots let you dial in the exact width and rate of that modulation, so subtle chorus-like shimmer or deeper pitch wobble are both on the table.
Housed in an enclosure no bigger than a Phase 90, the Carbon Copy is an easy fit even on tight boards, and true hardwire bypass means it stays out of your signal path entirely when switched off. Runs on a single 9-volt supply, lit up by MXR’s signature blue LEDs for easy visibility on a dark stage.
