Mary Cries brings the studio magic of LA-2A-style optical compression to your pedalboard, giving guitarists a musical, transparent way to even out dynamics. Rather than clamping down hard on transients, it uses light-dependent compression that reacts organically to your picking, smoothing peaks while letting the natural attack and decay of your notes breathe through.
Dial it in subtly for a touch of glue and added sustain, or push it further to fatten single notes and chords with a denser, more saturated feel. Because the compression curve stays forgiving even at higher settings, you retain string definition and top-end sparkle instead of losing your tone to mush. Depending on how you set the controls, Mary Cries can also function as a clean boost, making it a flexible utility for solos or rhythm work alike.
Placement in the chain is straightforward: run it early to tighten your dynamics before hitting drive or modulation pedals, or use it later to control the output of a hot overdrive. Either way, it’s built to disappear into your tone rather than color it, true bypass ensures your signal stays pure when the effect is off.
