Killing Floor is Seymour Duncan’s take on the classic gain-boost pedal — one knob, one voicing switch, and a shocking amount of tonal reach. Dial it back for a transparent lift into solos, or push it hard and it starts behaving like an amp being driven into its own natural overdrive: thick, musical, and dripping with blues attitude.
Because the gain control spans a full 0dB to 34dB, this pedal covers a lot of ground on a board. Set low, it’s a clean-ish volume bump for cutting through a mix during leads. Set high, it becomes a genuine overdrive voice with real sag and grit — the kind of tone that rewards picking dynamics. Leave it on all the time as a subtle tone-shaper, or save it strictly for solo boosts; either way it earns its spot in the chain.
The real secret weapon is the 3-way Voicing toggle, which reshapes the top end independently of gain. Flip it up for a 7dB boost at 10kHz to add air and sparkle — great for waking up dark humbuckers or adding boutique-style shimmer. Flip it down for a high cut, a first-order roll-off of -3dB at 4.8kHz, which tames overly bright single coils without dulling the pedal’s character. The middle position stays flat, letting the gain stage speak on its own.
