Description
The Xotic SP Compressor takes the OTA (operational transconductance amplifier) circuit that made the original Ross Compressor a benchmark among guitarists and shrinks it into a pedalboard-friendly enclosure without losing any of its character. Sweep the controls and you’ll find everything from glassy, low-ratio sustain to thick, vintage-style squash, plus more assertive modern compression when you need note-to-note consistency for lead lines or funk rhythm work.
What sets the SP apart on a crowded board is the dry blend knob, letting you mix in uncompressed signal to retain pick attack and dynamics while still benefiting from the compressor’s sustain and levelling. Up to +15dB of clean boost is on tap for pushing a dirty amp or overdrive further down the chain, and an internal dip switch lets you dial in the attack response to suit your playing style — quick transient control for percussive picking, or a softer onset for smoother swells.
Housed in a compact 3.5″ x 1.5″ x 1.5″ chassis (89 x 38 x 38mm, excluding knobs) and weighing just 0.57 lbs (260g without battery), it’s an easy fit near the front of a signal chain where compressors typically live — ahead of drive and modulation pedals. True bypass switching keeps your tone uncolored when off.
- True bypass switching
- Dry blend knob for parallel compression control
- Up to +15dB boost
- Internal dip switch for attack adjustment
- Power: 9VDC/5mA, single 9V (006P) battery or optional regulated 9VDC negative-tip adapter
